Molecular and genetic characterization of a novel nisin variant produced by Streptococcus uberis
Article Abstract:
A report that Streptococcus uberis strain 42 produces a lantibiotic, nisin U that is identical to nisin A from ds presented. This is first such report of characterization of a bacteriocin by Streptococcus uberis as well as of a member of the nisin family of peptides in a species other than Lactococcus lactis.

Bacteriocin (mutacin) production by Streptococcus mutans genome sequence reference strain UA159: Elucidation of the antimicrobial repertoire by genetic dissection
Article Abstract:
Streptococcus mutans UA159, the genome sequence reference strain, exhibits nonlantibiotic mutacin activity. Bioinformatic and mutational analyses are employed to demonstrate that the antimicrobial repertoire of strain UA159 includes mutacin IV and a newly identified bacteriocin, mutacin V.
