Genomic distribution of P elements in Drosophila willistoni and a search for their relationship with chromosomal inversions
Article Abstract:
P-homologous sequences are present in South American Drosophila willistoni populations indicating that the transposable elements are widely distributed in the species. The P insertion sites are present in the polytene chromosomes. D. willistoni, that exhibit chromosomal polymorphisms due to inversions, inhabit areas with high temperatures and humidity. High temperatures favor P mobilization, suggesting that the elements probably play a role in chromosomal polymorphism in D. willistoni.

Genetics and linkage mapping of Drosophila buzzatii
Article Abstract:
A linkage map of 51 visible mutants that were obtained from natural or laboratory bred populations of Drosophila buzzatii and assigned to chromosomes shows that half of the autosomal mutants map to chromosome 2, with only two on chromosome 3 and no mutants on chromosome 4. Variation among chromosomes in apparent mutability is suggested by chromosome 2 which has greater inversion variability than other chromosomes for the whole repleta group.
