Growth studies in Jena, Germany: changes in body size and subcutaneous fat distribution between 1975 and 1995
Article Abstract:
An anthropological investigation of schoolchildren of Jena, Germany, was carried out, 1975-95. Stature, weight, body mass index (BMI) and four skinfolds were recorded for children aged 7-14. A trend toward less subcutaneous fat was found, 1975-85. From 1985-95 stature and body weight increased, as did BMI. An increase in overall subcutaneous fat tissue was large, and the greatest amount of body fat found in the children after 1975 was found in 1995. The greatest ratio of trunk to extremity skinfolds (T/E ratio) was found in 1975. Nutritional and other factors may be related to reunification of Germany in 1989.

Growth studies in Jena, Germany: changes in sitting height, biacromial and biscristal breadth in the past decenniums
Article Abstract:
Research on the growth factors for males and females is measured using schoolchildren between the ages of 7 and 14 in Jena, Germany. Sex difference plays little role in indexes during childhood, however marked differences did occur during adolescent growth spurts when females developed broader hips and shorter legs than the males.
