Habitat selection by the monk parakeet during colonization of a new area in Spain
Article Abstract:
A study of habitat selection by monk parakeets during colonization of Barcelona, Spain, between 1992 and 1994 reveals significant selectivity in habitat choice. The species, scientifically referred to as Myiopsitta monachus, preferred urban parks with edible plants and palms. Their distribution and abundance were primarily influenced by high specificity and preference for nesting in palms and plants among individuals. The tallest palms were the most preferred nest site.

Characteristics of nesting areas used by San Clemente Island sage sparrows
Article Abstract:
The nest habitat preferred by sage sparrows living in San Clemente Island was investigated between March and June of 1986. Findings revealed that all nests were located in boxthorn shrubs in coastal scrub habitat. The nest sites featured greater and more equally distributed vegetation cover than did nearby habitat. Typically, the nests were situated on the leeward section of live boxthorn shrubs coexisting with cactus.
