Homology within the X chromosomes of Boophilus microplus (Canestrini) and B. annulatus (Say)
Article Abstract:
The chromosome banding patterns of X chromosomes of Boophilus annulatus and B. microplus show a certain homology between the two species. Bands of the small X chromosome of B. microplus are present in the large X chromosome of B. annulatus with only one medically located dark band excluded. The region of material near the centromere and a small portion situated at the telomere of the large X chromosome of B. annulatus is not present in the small X Chromosome of B. microplus.

The gene of retroviral origin Syncytin 1 is specific to hominoids and is inactive in old world monkeys
Article Abstract:
The status of Syncytin 1 in 14 hominoid and Old World monkeys (OWM) species is investigated, showing that although the endogenous retrovirus (HERV-W) provirus responsible for the origin of this gene was present in the genome of the most common ancestor of hominoids and OWMs, Syncytin 1 is inactive in OWMs. Results indicate that Syncytin 1 is indeed a hominoid-specific gene and illustrate the complex and dynamic process associated with the origin of new genes.

Genomic divergence between human and chimpanzee estimated from large-scale alignments of genomic sequences
Article Abstract:
Large-scale genomic sequence alignments were performed to study the genomic divergence between human and chimpanzee. A comparison of homologous sequences between the two species that has an important implication for the critical changes, which separate human from chimpanzee, is presented.
