Hydrogenases in Nostoc sp. strain PCC 73102, a strain lacking a bidirectional enzyme
Article Abstract:
The presence of bidirectional hydrogenase in Nostoc sp. strain PCC 73102 was determined by utilizing Southern blot analysis and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and in situ hydrogenase activity staining. Sequencing reactions and Southern hybridization failed to detect the presence of a bidirectional hydrogenase in Nostoc sp. strain PCC 73102. Furthermore, molecular and physiological techniques did not detect the presence of hox genes in the Nostoc sp. strain.

Analysis of the hupSL operon of the nonheterocystous cyanobacterium lyngbya majuscula CCAP 1446/4: Regulation of transcription and expression under a light-dark regimen
Article Abstract:
The characterization of an uptake hydrogenase (hupSL) from a marine filamentous nonheterocystous cyanobacterium, Lyngbya majuscula CCAP 1446/4 is presented. The results suggest that the established correlation between the uptake hydrogenase activity and N2 fixation in cyanobacteria are confined to the dark period in aerobically grown cells of Lyngbya majuscula CCAP 1446/4.

Halotolerant cyanobacterium alphanothece halophytica contains NapA-type Na+/H+ antiporters with novel ion specificity that are involved in salt tolerance at alkaline pH
Article Abstract:
The isolation and characterization of the homologous gene is examined in Aphanothece halophytica. The results indicate that Aphanothece halophytica has two NapA1-type antiporters which exhibit different ion specificities and play an important role in salt tolerance at alkaline pH.
