Identification of IngA, the structural gene of longus type IV pilus of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli
Article Abstract:
The cloning and DNA sequencing analysis of the structural gene of longus, IngA, were conducted. DNA sequencing analysis revealed the open reading frame whose predicted amino acid sequence matched perfectly the N-terminal sequence of LngA derived by Edman degradation. Immunological and molecular comparisons between longus and colonization factor antigens/III suggest that the pili share some structural type IV pilus features but also demonstrate differences at the DNA and protein level, indicating the close relatedness of the two determinants of human enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli.

Interaction of the bovine papillomavirus E2 protein with Brd4 tethers the viral DNA to host mitotic chromosomes
Article Abstract:
A study shows that Brd4 (bromodomain protein) functions as the major cellular receptor for the bovine papillomavirus E2 protein, and viral genome on mitotic chromosomes and blocking the E2/Brd4 interaction, prevents the mitotic chromosomal targeting of both E2 and viral genome. The fact that Brd4 also associates with HPV16 E2 protein indicates that interaction with Brd4 is not specific for BVP-1 E2 and is a general property of all PV E2 proteins.

Correlation of a subset of the pLC plasmids to the physical map of Escherichia coli K-12
Article Abstract:
The genetic map of K-12-ColE1 (pLC) plasmids in the Escherichia coli was elucidated by plaque hybridization. The total number of pLC plasmids were 518, approximately half of the entire Eschericia coli genome. The chromosome map of the E. coli was presented to show the position of the analyzed 518 pLC plasmids. A correlation between the pLC plasmids and the E. coli clones was also established.
