Identification of lipopolysaccharide O antigen synthesis genes required for attachment of the S-layer of Caulobacter crescentus
Article Abstract:
Identification of lipopolysaccharide O antigen synthesis genes required for attachment of the two-dimensional crystalline protein lattice layer, the outer layer or S layer, of Caulobacter crescentus is discussed. The nature of the interaction between the RsaA S-layer subunit protein and the O antigen has been unknown, but findings of a study of the chemical composition of the oligosaccharide will contribute to defining that interaction. The nature of the genes suggests that the C. crescentus O antigen is made up of the 4,6-dideoxyaminohexose perosamine. Glycosyltranferases identified appear to be involved in polymerization of the O antigen.

S-layer-mediated display of the immunoglobulin G-binding domain of streptococcal protein G on the surface of Caulobacter crescentus: Development of an immunoactive reagent
Article Abstract:
The possibility of constructing functional immunoreactive reagents using the caulobacter S-layer is investigated and it is suggested that in applications where it is necessary to immobilize and isolate immunoglobulin G, S-layer fusion proteins can be used.
