Identification of new genes required for meiotic recombination in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
Screening for mutants defective for meiotic recombination from a strain of Saccharomyces cerevisae yielded 27 mutants and were classified into three classes with the identification of two new genes: mre2 and mre11. All mutants can produce spores, however, they are not viable. In contrast, the new gene mutants had been found to produce viable spores in a spo13 background if meiosis is bypassed. The mre11 mutant had shown sensitivity to DNA damage by methy methanesulfonate and hyperrecombination in mitosis while the mre2 did not show anything unusual during mitosis.

Interaction of Mre11 and Rad50: two proteins required for DNA repair and meiosis-specific double-strand break formation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
Defects in meiotic recombination and DNA repair during Negative growth at a restrictive temperature in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is caused by the presence of a temperature sensitive mutation mrell-1. The MRE-11 gene is cloned and the cloning reveals that the gene encoded a 643 amino acid protein with a highly acidic region in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The DNA repair and defects occurs by means of the complicated functioning of the Mre11 and Rad 50 proteins.

Meiotic chromosome pairing in triploid and tetraploid Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
The study of meiotic chromosome pairing in isogenic triploid and tetraploid strains of yeast reveals that the synatonemal complex formation at pachytene is different in the tetraploid and in the triploid. The study involves the investigation of the consequences of polyploidy on meiotic chromosome regregation. The connection of the three homologous chromosomes is found to be common and exhibits extensions in all directions.
