Identifying functionally important mutations from phenotypically diverse sequence data
Article Abstract:
A simple statistical method is presented to determine the phenotypic contribution of a single mutation from libraries of mutants with diverse phenotypes in which each mutant contains a multitude of mutations. The statistical method has elucidated the phenotypic manifestations of these mutations and it can be used for expediting directed evolution experiments by allowing both desired and undesired mutations to be identified and incorporated between rounds of mutagenesis.

Improvement of xylose uptake and ethanol production in recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae through an inverse metabolic engineering approach
Article Abstract:
An inverse metabolic engineering approach is used to identify gene targets for improved xylose assimilation in recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The results indicate that open reading frame (ORF) designated PsTAL1 is a better gene target for engineering of the pentose phosphate pathway in recombinant S. cerevisiae.

Transposon mutagenesis to improve the growth of recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae on D-xylose
Article Abstract:
Insertional transposon mutagenesis is used to identify two loci that can relieve the xylose-specific growth inhibition. The results have shown that the deletion of PHO13 increased transcripts for TAL1, which are useful for constructing better xylose-fermenting Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
