Importance of organosulfur utilization for survival of Pseudomonas putida in soil and rhizosphere
Article Abstract:
The importance of arylsulfonate, alkylsulfonate and sulfate ester utilization pathways on the survival of Pseudomonas putida S-313 under various soil conditions and in a tomato rhizosphere is assessed using wild type/mutant comparisons. Mutants of P. putida S-313 with mutations in the asf, ssu, and ats/sft gene loci reveal impaired soil and rhizoshpere competence compared to the wild type, with the highest effect seen in the soil that was lowest in total sulfur.

Cultivation-independent examination of horizontal transfer and host range of an IncP-1 plasmid among gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria indigenous to the barley rhizosphere
Article Abstract:
The host range and transfer frequency of an IncP-L plasmid (pKJK10) was investigated among indigenous bacteria in the barley rhizosphere. It was demonstrated that conjugative transfer of the pKJK10 plasmid involved both gram-positive and gram-negative recipients.
