Influence of different chemical treatments on transport of Alcaligenes paradoxus in porous media
Article Abstract:
Maximum decrease in the attachment of the bacteria Alcaligenes paradoxus to glass beads in buffered solutions can be achieved by using the surfactant Tween 20, while in unbuffered solutions attachment can be decreased by decreasing the solution's ionic strength. The number of bacteria that are present in the porous medium decreases if the the bacteria are made hydrophobic or their electric charge is decreased. The bioremediation of contaminated water by bacteria is more effective if the bacteria move down in the water column and do not stick to any particles.

Response of archaeal communities in beach sediments to spilled oil and bioremediation
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine the relationship between archaeal community structure and oil spill bioremediation in laboratory microcosms and in a bioremediation field trial. 16S rRNA gene-based PCR and denaturing gradient gel analysis revealed that the archaeal community in oil-free laboratory microcosms was stable for a period of 26 days.

Kinetics of perchlorate- and chlorate-respiring bacteria
Article Abstract:
Researchers have discovered bacteria that can degrade chlorate and perchlorate, which are common contaminants in water. All of the isolates from wastewater and a perchlorate-degrading bioreactor used oxygen and chlorate as the terminal electron acceptor.
