Inorganic cation transport and energy transduction in Enterococcus hirae and other streptococci
Article Abstract:
The energy metabolism and cation transport processes of streptococci were studied using samples of Enterococcus hirae. These organisms were used due to their inadequate respiratory chains, precise estimated adenosine triphosphate, low supply of energy and sensitive to inhibitors acting on the cell membranes. It was discovered that the distribution of transport systems for proton, potassium and sodium ions were necessary for streptococcal physiology. High sodium concentrations and growth at alkaline pH adversely affected cellular physiology.

Short-sequence DNA repeats in prokaryotic genomes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on short-sequence DNA repeats (SSRs) in prokaryotic genomes using molecular analysis. Results showed that SSRs function at different levels of gene expression regulation and allow genetic and phenotypic flexibility. The recombination processes or polymerase inadequacy such as slipped-strand mispairing apparently caused the variations in the number of repeat units per locus or in the individual repeat sequences.

Origin and evolution of the mitochondrial proteome
Article Abstract:
Phylogenetic reconstructions of about 400 homologues are discussed for the origin of mitochondrial proteome from genomes of alpha-proteobacterium and an eukaryotic nucleus. While the core respiratory fuction and proteins are primarily derived from the former, the proteins of the functional complexes are derived from the latter source.
