Insulin resistance is an evolutionarily conserved physiological mechanism at the cellular level for protection against increased oxidative stress
Article Abstract:
A unifying mechanism is described for the pathologies leading to insulin resistance (IR) and the differences between the cellular and organismal forms of IR are discussed. It is shown that IR might be a physiological mechanism activated at the cellular level in response to conditions stimulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and might lead to the prevention of oxidative stress and extension of life.

STOP and GO with NO: Nitric oxide as a regulator of cell motility in simple brains
Article Abstract:
Various experiments are discussed which show that the messenger nitric oxide (NO) is an additional regulator of cell motility. The analysis of specific cells types in invertebrate models such as molluscs, insects and the medicinal leech provides knowledge about the effect of NO and cyclic nucleotides on the wiring of nervous systems by regulating the cell and growth-cone motility.
