Interspecific competition for nest holes causes adult mortality in the collared flycatcher
Article Abstract:
A total of 23 flycatchers died within a single breeding season as a result of the interspecific nest site competition between tits and collared flycatchers. A majority of flycatchers that succumbed to the competition were males, which numbered 18. A total of nineteen deaths happened in the nests of great tits while two deaths occurred in the nests of blue tits. Results show that such competition for nest sites is a major cause of death in collared flycatcher populations.

Ecology and breeding biology of the Hawaii elepaio (Chasiempis sandwichensis bryani)
Article Abstract:
The elepaio species in the Hawaiian islands was studied from 1970-1981. The Chasiempis sandwichensis bryani's extended breeding season runs from February until August, and the most intensive breeding occurs from April to June. The elepaio keeps the same mate for over one breeding season and stays in their location for the entire year. The breeding season's length was found to be the most influential factor to affect the species' annual productivity on Mauna Kea.

Molt and migratory condition in blue tits: a serological study
Article Abstract:
The hematocrit, red blood cell sedimentation rate level and size of subcutaneous fat of molting birds such as Blue Tits is similar to that of non molting birds. Thus, the level of stress in the two types of birds fails to show any difference. Birds with a higher level of subcutaneous fat have low sedimentation rate levels and high hematocrit values. This indicates that the level of fat affects the state of health of migrating birds during molt.
