Intracellular selection, conversion bias, and the expected substitution rate of organelle genes
Article Abstract:
Factors affecting the substitution process in organelle genes was studied. The fixation of a new organelle mutant is influenced by gene conversion, genome replication within organelles and organelle replication within a cell. This holds particularly in situations where directional intracellular forces, such as biased conversion or genetic variances in the replication rates of organelles or genomes, exist. The presence of genetic exchange between organelles introduces ambiguity to the contribution of intra- and inter-organelle selection and drift. The study showed that biparental inheritance enhances the effect of directional intracellular forces.

Simulation study of a multigene family, with special reference to the evolution of compensatory advantageous mutations
Article Abstract:
Gene conversion can increase the rate of accumulation of alleles with compensatory advantageous mutations for redundant genes in a multigene family. Simulation studies were used to examine the evolution of a multigene family with respect to gene conversion, selection, drift, mutation and unequal crossing over. Genes containing the greatest number of beneficial alleles were selected while genes containing deleterious alleles were rejected.
