The functional ccpA gene is required for carbon catabolite repression in Lactobacillus plantarum
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe the gene that codes for catabolite control protein A (ccpA) in Lactobacillus plantarum. This protein regulates the production of beta glucosidases and has two promoters, one of which binds to a catabolite-responsive element.

Identification and characterization of the proBA operon of Streptococcus bovis
Article Abstract:
Recombinant plasmids complemetary to proA and proB mutations were found in the construction of a genomic DNA library of the rumen bacterium Streptococcus bovis in Eschirichia coli. Plasmids and strains were subjected to Southern hybridization and resriction analysis. Similarity between the proline biosynthetic pathway of S. bovis and E. coli was established by the resulting genetic and biochemical data.

Involvement of pyruvate oxidase activity and acetate production in the survival of Lactobacillus plantarum during the stationary phase of aerobic growth
Article Abstract:
The contribution of each additional pax gene to the global pyruvate oxidase (POX) activity is studied and the physiological importance of POX activity and acetate production by L.plantarum cells during the stationary phase of aerobic growth is evaluated. Improved cell viability of the S. aureus cidC mutant is correlated with the ability to utilize the acetate, whereas in the POX-deficient L. plantarum strain it is correlated with the inability to produce acetate.
