Involvement of two specific causes of cell mortality in freeze-thaw cycles with freezing to -196 degrees Celsius
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine cell viability after freezing. Two distinct ranges of temperature were identified as corresponding to stages at which yeast cell mortality occurred during freezing to minus196 degrees Celsius, the upper range related to the temperature of crystallization of the medium and the lower temperature range related to recrystallization that occurred during thawing.

Cell size and water permeability as determining factors for cell viability after freezing at different cooling rates
Article Abstract:
Research examines the viabilities of different cell types, such as yeast cells, bacterial cells, and human cells, with respect to their cooling rate from 5 and 30,000 C per minute. Results show a U-pattern for the cell viability versus cooling rate. All cell types show an higher viability at low and very high cooling rates.

Synergistic and antagonistic effects of combined subzero temperature and high pressure on inactivation of Escherichia coli
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the combined effects of subzero temperature and high pressure on the inactivation of Escherichia coli. It was observed that a synergistic interaction between subzero temperature and high pressure occurred in their effects on microbial inactivation.
