Sponge-associated microorganisms: Evolution, ecology, and biotechnological potential
Article Abstract:
The diversity of microbes is reviewed in detail especially those associated with sponges including extensive 16S rRNA-based phylogenetic analyses which support the suggested existence of a sponge-specific microbiota. The different approaches that are employed to access the chemical wealth of sponge-microbe associations are discussed.

Siderophore-based iron acquisition and pathogen control
Article Abstract:
The general aspects of siderophore-mediated iron acquisition, iron-related pathogen-host interactions and the strategies for iron-dependent pathogen control are discussed. The inhibition of novel siderophore pathways targets is described.
