Isoprenoid-mediated changes in the glycerophospholipid molecular species of the sterol auxotrophic fungus Lagenidium giganteum
Article Abstract:
Mass spectrometric studies of the influence of isoprenoid supplementation on the mosquito pathogenic fungus Langenidium giganteum reveal that isoprenoid induces significant modifications in molecular species of glycerophosphocholine (GPC), glycerophosphoethanolamine (GPE) and glycerophosphoinositol (GPI). Ether linkages are present in majority of GPC and GPI isolated from mycelia and nuclei. Sterol auxotrophic nature of the fungus is suggested as the reason for the higher levels of ether lipids.

A peptidorhamnomannan from the mycelium of Pseudallescheria boydii is a potential diagnostic antigen of this emerging human pathogen
Article Abstract:
A peptidorhamnomannan from the mycelium of Pseudallescheria boydii, an emerging human pathogen and an ascomycete, has been found to be a potential diagnostic antigen. Several characteristics and immunological differences suggest the major rhamnose-containing antigen maybe be useful in diagnosing. The organism is found in soil and polluted water; a peptidopolysaccharide antigen was isolated from mycelial forms using chemical and immunological methods.

Biochemistry of methanogenesis: A tribute to Marjory Stephenson
Article Abstract:
A summary of the current knowledge of the biochemistry of methanogenesis is presented, with emphasis on the enzyme methyl-coenzyme M reductase catalyzing the methane-forming reaction. Marjory Stephenson, who died in 1948, discovered hydrogenase in such micro-organisms. A description of methanogens is provided and the energy metabolism of methanoarchaea is described.
