Kinetics and metabolism of Bifidobacterium adolescentis MB 239 growing on glucose, galactose, lactose, and galactooligosaccharides
Article Abstract:
The kinetics and metabolism of Bifidobacterium adolescentis MB 239 growing on glucose, galactose, lactose, and galactooligosaccharides is being explained and described. The analysis the efficiency of the substrate transport systems, as well as the different distributions of carbon fluxes leads to the carbohydrate preferences in the substance.

Fermentation of fructooligosaccharides and inulin by bifidobacteria: A comparative study of pure and fecal cultures
Article Abstract:
The utilization of the fructoologosaccharides (FOS) and inulin by 55 Bifidobacterium strains were investigated. The results observed that bifidobacteria grew by cross feeding on mono- and oligosaccharides produced by primary inulin intestinal degraders as evidenced by the high hydrolytic activity of fecal supernatants.

Folate production by bifidobacteria as a potential probiotic property
Article Abstract:
The growth of different strains of bifidobacterium in a folate-free medium showed that folate production is strain specific. It is not dependent on the variables such as pH and carbon source in the external environment.
