Cellulose catabolism by Clostridium cellulolyticum growing in batch culture on defined medium
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the cellulose degradation by Clostridium cellulolyticum in a bioreactor. The effect of cellulose concentration on the carbon flow distribution has been investigated.

Metabolic flux in cellulose batch and cellulose-fed continuous culture of Clostridium cellulolyticum in response to acidic environment
Article Abstract:
Metabolic flux in response to acidic environment has been studied in cellulose batch and cellulose-fed continuous culture of Clostridium cellulolyticum. A change of only one pH unit brought on considerable metabolic change and ended in washout at about pH 6.2. The organism seems to be similar to rumen cellulolytic bacteria in sensitivity to acidic conditions. It appears that cellulolytic anaerobes studied so far do not thrive when the pH drops below 6.0. They seem to have evolved in environments where acid tolerance was not required for successful competition with other microbes.

Kinetics and metabolism of cellulose degradation at high substrate concentrations in steady-state continuous cultures of Clostridium cellulolyticum on a chemically defined medium
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the insoluble cellulose. The hydrolysis and fermentation of this cellulose have been investigated via the use of the continuous cultures of Clostridium cellulolyticum under carbon-saturated conditions in a salt-based medium.
