Neuroligin expressed in nonneuronal cells triggers presynaptic development in contacting axons
Article Abstract:
Neuroligin expressed in nonneuronal cells has been found to trigger presynaptic development in contacting axons. Through use of an in vitro system it was shown that neuroligin-1 and -2 are able to trigger the de novo formation of presynaptic structure. It seems neuroligins are part of the mechanism used in formation/remodeling of CNS synapses. Neuroligin-1 and -2 are postsynaptically localized proteins

Lateral signaling mediated by axon contact and calcium entry regulates asymmetric odorant receptor expression in C. elegans
Article Abstract:
Regulation of asymmetric odorant receptor expression in Caenorhabditis elegans by lateral signaling mediated by axon contact and calcium entry is discussed. Study of str-2, a predicted seven-transmembrane domain protein with sequence similarity to the diacetyl receptor odr-10, expression shows that alternative olfactory cell fates can be specified by calcium channels and CaM kinase.
