Light and development regulate the expression of the albino-3 gene in Neurospora crassa
Article Abstract:
The albino(al)-3 locus in Neurospora crassa encodes two distinct though overlapping transcripts, al-3(m) or mycelial and al-3(c) or conidial. The two transcripts respond to different regulatory stimuli that act on distinct promoter regions. Patterns of response to light, conidiation and circadian rhythm have been investigated. The al-3 gene contains codes for geranylageranyl pyrophosphate synthase, an enzyme associated with the biosynthesis of carotenoids. The al-3(m) transcript was transiently expressed in the mycelium after light induction. The al-3(c) mRNA appeared in conidiating cultures only and varied according to the circadian cycle.

DRhoGEF2 encodes a member of the Dbl family of oncogenes and controls cell shape changes during gastrulation in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
DRhoGEF2 has been identified as a gene that is crucial in controlling cell shape changes during gastrulation by encoding a putative guanine nucleotide exchange factor. Mesodermal and endodermal primordia are unable to invaginate without maternal DRhoGEF2 genes. The gene appears to act independent of other genes in the signalling pathway.
