MCE activities and malathion resistances in field populations of the Australian sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina)
Article Abstract:
Malathion carboxylesterase (MCE) activities and malathion resistances have been investigated in field populations of the Australian sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina). Five mass populations, three sets of field-derived samples, two sets of isogenic lines were studied. Resistance to malathion in the samples is associated with high MCE activity in both sets of isogenic lines and four of the five mass populations. Diazinon resistances from the same three samples were assayed. Diazinon and malathion resistances were in complete disequilibrium with two exceptions.

A single monooxygenase, Ese, is involved in the metabolism of the organochlorides endosulfan and endosulfate in an Arthrobacter sp
Article Abstract:
The isolation of a bacterium capable of degrading both isomers of the organochloride insecticide endosulfan and its toxic metabolite, endosulfate, is described. The sequence of encodes as enzyme (Ese) is related to the sequence of Esd and the operon not containing ese contains a homologue whose product displayed 62% amino acid identity to the ese-encoded protein.
