GSK-3 kinases enhance calcineurin signaling by phosphorylation of RCNs
Article Abstract:
The stimulatory effect of yeast protein Rcn1 that involves phosphorylation of a conserved serine residue by Mck 1, a member of the GSK-3 family of protein kinases is shown. Accordingly, the findings demonstrate that calcineurin signaling can be significantly modulated by GSK-3 through effects on RCNs and provide new opportunities for the therapeutic control of calcineurin.

A conserved family of calcineurin regulators
Article Abstract:
A conserved family of calcineurin regulators is discussed. A newly identified family of proteins conserved in fungi and animals inhibits calcineurin function if overexpressed. It was identified using a genetic screen in yeast. The Rcn1p family may act as regulators of feedback of calcineurin signaling. Various calcineurin-dependent functions may be affected in turn.

Characterization of U4 and U6 interactions with the 5' splice site using a S. cerevisiae in vitro trans-splicing system
Article Abstract:
ATP-dependent U6 and U4 interactions with the 5' splice site have been characterized using a Saccharomyces cerevisiae in vitro trans-splicing system. The interactions are independent of ATP-mediated U2 association with the branch point.
