Genetic structure and colonizing success of a clonal, weedy species, Polosella officinarum (Asteraceae)
Article Abstract:
Genetic structure and colonizing success have been investigated in a clonal, New Zealand weed species, Polosella officinarum (Asteraceae) through use of hypersensitive genetic markers, inter-simple sequnce repeats (ISSRs). It was found that variable levels of genetic variation exist and that there are patterns of clonal distribution showing vriouslevels of sexual reproduction in the New Zealand population of the weed, brought from Europe in the late 19th century. Only polyploid apomictic populations seem to have survived.

The use of molecular markers to investigate the genetic structure of an oil palm breeding programme
Article Abstract:
The genetic structure of plants in an oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) breeding program has been investigate using molecular markers. RFLP markers were used. Usefulness of markers to help in oil palm breeding, their value in parental selection to maintain residual diversity in specific breeding pools, and use in assessing fidelity of breeding lineages are discussed.

Macrogeographic patterns of breeding system diversity in the Daphnia pulex group from the United States and Mexico
Article Abstract:
Macrogeographic patterns of breeding system diversity have been studied in the Daphnia pulex group of the United States and Mexico, extending the geographical scope of investigations. Clarifying the role of climatic variables in modulating levels of clonal diversity in single populations was one goal. Genotypic diversity was seen, but only diploids were detected, indicating that polyploids are only in the previously studied areas farther to the north. Patterns suggest that the interplay of historical factors and selection are at work in the area studied.
