Mapping AFLP markers associated with subspecific differentiation of Oryza sativa (rice) and an investigation of segregation distortion
Article Abstract:
AFLP markers associated with indica and japonica subspecies of Asian rice have been mapped. These 50 markers are distributed throughout the genome. In addition, potential sources of segregation distortion have been investigated for a doubled haploid population obtained by crossing the indica variety IR64 and the japonica variety Azucena. The indica-japonica differentiation and gametophytic/sterility genes may account for two-thirds of the markers with segregation distortion.

Genetic relationships within the genus Beta determined using both PCR-based marker and DNA sequencing techniques
Article Abstract:
Genetic relationships in the genus Beta, an economically important genus which includes various beets and chards, are discussed relative to study using DNA sequencing and PCR-based marker techniques. Interspecies within-section relationships consistent with those reported previously were shown by RAPD data, not the same thing that happened in all cases with single-locus sequence data.
