Micelle formation and crystallization as paradigms for virus assembly
Article Abstract:
The processes of crystallization, micelle formation and virus assembly represent first-order phase transformations. It is observed that restructuring of protein subunits into the geometric shells of polyhedral viruses is attractive for viral assembly as it utilizes only physical properties inherent to the system and shares many characteristics with examples of self-assembly, micelles and crystals.

An ancient control of epithelial barrier formation and wound healing
Article Abstract:
Animal epithelia are lined with apical surface matrices, which protect against pathogens, dehydration and physical damage of the underlying cells. The findings propose an intriguing biological function for grainy head (grh) proteins in epithelial barrier formation and repair upon wounding, which appears conserved since the advent of multicellular animals.

Cartilage formation in growth plate and arteries: From physiology to pathology
Article Abstract:
The effects of known or suspected factors that promote chondrogenic differentiation in growth plate and arteries. Some aspects of chondrogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), which suggest that a cartilage-like tissue forms in some types of vascular calcifications are highlighted.
