Modeling the effects of health status and the educational infrastructure on the cognitive development of Tanzanian schoolchildren
Article Abstract:
A comprehensive analysis of factors affecting children's cognitive development is presented using a longitudinal data set from 10 schools in the rural coastal regions of Tanzania. The empirical results suggested the importance of variables such as children's height and hemoglobin concentration for the scores, especially on educational achievement tests that are easy to implement in developing countries.

Gender and nutritional status at the household level among Gwembe valley Tonga children, 0-10 years
Article Abstract:
A nutritional status among children of age 0-10 years is examined to determine whether female bias can be documented by household type among Gwembe Tonga children. The results suggest that girls have better physical status than boys in polygynous households, thus demonstrating gender bias in pre-adolescents.

Coliforms in the water and hemoglobin concentration are predictors of gastrointestinal morbidity of Bangladeshi children ages 1-10 years
Article Abstract:
Coliforms in drinking water transmitted to children in Bangladesh proved to be significant predictors of morbidity, although children with better hemoglobin status tended to have lower morbidity. There were also significant negative associations between hemoglobin and children's hookworm loads.
