Characterization of pRGO1, a plasmid from Propionibacterium acidipropionici, and its use for development of a host-vector system in propionibacteria
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe a plasmid that could be used to introduce various genes into Propionibacterium acidipropionici. This organism is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Molecular characterization of Lactobacillus plantarum genes for beta-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase III (fabH) and acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (accBCDA), which are essential for fatty acid biosynthesis
Article Abstract:
Six potential open reading frames were identified for the acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase gene, which is involved in fatty acid synthesis in Lactobacillus plantarum L137. These are, in order, manB, fabH, accB, accC, accD, and accA, and their functions include encoding beta-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase III, biotin carboxyl carrier protein, carboxyltransferase subunits alpha and beta, and biotin carboxylase.

Cloning and characterization of the gene encoding glutamate 1-semialdehyde 2,1-aminomutase, which is involved in delta-aminolevulinic acid synthesis in Propionibacterium freudenreichii
Article Abstract:
The biosynthesis of delta-aminolevulenic acid (ALA) in a vitamin B12-producing bacterium was studied. The gene was isolated from Propinobacterium freudenrichii that complemented a hemL mutation in Escherichia coli. The homology of the deduced amino acid were relative to those of the HemL proteins from other organisms. Results indicate that the synthesis of ALA occurs via the C5 pathway.
