Enhanced detection of surface-associated bacteria in indoor environments by quantitative PCR
Article Abstract:
Quantitative PCR can be used to evaluate several methods for sampling surfaces for bacteria. This was the conclusion of researchers who used QPCR to analyze samples taken from vinyl tile and carpets by a swab kit, a sponge wipe, a cotton swab, and a bulk method.

Monitoring airborne fungal spores in an experimental indoor environment to evaluate sampling methods and the effects of human activity on air sampling
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of selected aerobiological sampling methods for the retrieval of airborne spores and the determination of the effect of human activity on air sampling are discussed. Experiments involved the aerosolizationof the fungal spores of Penicillium chrysogenum and the utilization of a laser-based aerodynamic particle sizer. Data from total count and culture basd sampling methods were then compared. It was found that the level of microbial contamination in indoor environments are not adequately reflected by air sampling without concomitant surface sampling.

Evaluation of two surface sampling methods for detection of Erwinia herbicola on a variety of materials by culture and quantitative PCR
Article Abstract:
The evaluation of two different surface sampling methods that are used for the detection of Erwinia herbicola on a variety of materials by culture and quantitative PCR (QPCR) is presented. QPCR is found to be capable of enhancing the detection and enumeration of biocontaminants on different surface materials.
