TATA element recognition by the TATA box-binding protein has been conserved throughout evolution
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate interaction and formation of Hoogsteen base pairs between TATA box-binding protein (TBP) and TATA elements in the recognition process. Data also point out that TBP-TATA complex is an integral part of the RNA polymerase II transcription machinery and is conserved through the course of evolution.

Genome-wide analyses reveal properties of redundant and specific promoter occupancy within the ETS gene family
Article Abstract:
The article describes that redundant binding correlates with consensus ETS-binding sequence near transcription start sites and contrary specific binding sites diverged dramatically from the consensus that were found further from transcription sites.
