Non-Mendelian segregation and variable penetrance of colour genes in the polymorphic butterfly Danaus chrysippus (L.)
Article Abstract:
Variation in penetrance of color genes and non-Mendelian segregation involving three color gene loci in the polymorphic butterfly Danaus chrysippus (L.) are discussed. The butterfly has a large range of polymorphic sympatric forms in some african countries only. In each brood of four affected, two of four phenotypes expected in the offspring were absent in both sexes. It appears that the polymorphic D. chrysippus populations at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, may be hybrid in origin and study results are consistent with an inherited prezygotic incompatibility mechanism operating at fertilization.

Body size and colour-pattern genetics in the polymorphic mimetic butterfly Hypolimnas misippus (L.)
Article Abstract:
Color-pattern and body-size genetics in the polymorphic mimetic diadem butterfly, Hypolimnas misippus (L.), are discussed. The butterfly shows some anomalies in the presumed Batesian mimetic relationship with the distasteful danaine, Danaus chrysippus, and it has been shown that the A locus, probably a supergene with at least four loci linked in coupling, segregates for body size and color pattern. Multiple origins, not selective maintenance, is likely in the evolution of the mimicry.

Coadapted gene complexes for morphological traits in Drosophila mercatorum: two-loci interactions
Article Abstract:
Morphological traits and coadapted gene complexes for them in Drosophila mercatorum are discussed based on a study that focused on detection of single-locus and two-loci effects on the traits. Results indicate epistatsis to be an important contributor to genetic architecture.
