Nonadditive changes in genome size during allopolyploidization in the wheat (Aegilops-Triticum) group
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on allopolyploid formation associated with genetic and epigenetic changes. The authors have investigated synthesized wheat allopolyploids and their parental plants, and the results demonstrate that the allopolyploids have a genome size smaller than has been anticipated, and that the nonadditive change in genome size can represent the preprogrammed adaptive response to genomic stress caused by hybridization.
