Notch signaling in hematopoiesis and lymphopoiesis: Lessons from Drosophila
Article Abstract:
The role of Notch signaling in the hematopoietic system is reviewed with particular emphasis on lymphocyte development and the similarities in Notch function of Drosophila and mammalian differentiation processes are discussed. The study indicates that Notch signaling controls multiple cell fate decisions in mammals as well as invertebrates like Drosophila, and differentiation process during fetal hematopoiesis and adult lymphocyte development but more research has to be conducted to find new strategies for fighting cancer.
