On the dynamic nature of positional information
Article Abstract:
Lewis Wolpert's positional information lacks the necessary properties of the original field concept therefore a data-driven mathematical modeling approach is described that has helped in studying regulatory processes in a way that is quantitatively different. The segmentation gene expression is analyzed in the blastoderm embryo of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and a revised French Flag is proposed, which has incorporated the dynamic, feedback-driven nature of pattern formation in the Drosophila blastoderm.

Maternal Cyclin B levels "Chk" the onset of DNA replication checkpoint control in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
The embryo transitions to new cell divisions and the transfer of the maternal control of development to zygotic genome is studied. The analysis shows that a balance of Cyclin-dependent Kinase 1 and Cyclin B (Cdk1-Cyc-B) activity relative to Drosophila checkpoint kinase Chk1 determines these cell diversions.
