Spontaneous mutation rate of modifiers of metabolism in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
Quantification of divergence in the 200 lines of Drosophila melanogaster and the determination of the rate of increase on the variation in metabolic characters help predict the equilibrium distribution of different characters. The predictions will provide important information on the evolutionary quantitative genetics of a particular species. The study also reveals the distribution of the influences of new mutations in the Drosophila species.

Stress tolerance and metabolic response to stress in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
Fruit flies can be used to conduct research on physiological responses to stress. A set of genetically defined lines of Drosophila melanogaster were exposed to acetic acid, ethanol, starvation and thermal stress. Metabolic traits and survival times showed significant differences, while correlations between enzyme traits and survival were usually weak. Transient environmental stress may be an important element in how metabolic traits evolve.
