Peptidoglycan hydrolase fusions maintain their parental specificities
Article Abstract:
The details with respect to avoiding the use of broad-range antimicrobials through the use of specific peptidoglycan hydrolases, which might reduce the incidence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens worldwide is discussed. It is stated that the fusion peptidoglycan hydrolase kills multiple human pathogens and it proved useful as a highly selective, multipathogen-targeting antimicrobial agent that could potentially reduce the use of broad-range antibiotics in fighting clinical infections.

Characterization of Streptococcus thermophilius host range phage mutants
Article Abstract:
A phage-resistant derivative (SMQ-301R) is obtained by challenging a Tn917 library of phage-sensitive strain Streptococcus thermophillius SMQ-301 with virulent phage DT1 in order to investigate phage-host interactions in S. thermophillius. The results suggest that at least three phage structural proteins may be involved in phage-host interactions in Streptococcus thermophillius.

Characterization of coliphage PR772 and evaluation of its use for virus filter performance testing
Article Abstract:
The specific properties of the phage were analyzed to support its use to standardize the nomenclature of larger-pore-size virus filters. It was seen that the coliphage PR772 appears to be an appropriate model bacteriophage for standardization of nomenclature for larger-pore-size virus-retentive filters.
