Persistence of animal and human glycopeptide-resistant enterococci on two Norwegian poultry farms formerly exposed to avoparcin is associated with a widespread plasmid-mediated vanA element within a polyclonal Enterococcus faecium population
Article Abstract:
An analysis of fecal human and animal glycopeptide-resistant Enterococcus faecium (GREF) and -susceptible (GSEF) E. faecium strains isolated from two Norwegian poultry farms in three occasions 3 to 4 years after the abolishment of avoparcin is made. The genetic relatedness within and between human and animal GSEF and GREF populations were investigated.

Prevalence, persistence, and molecular characterization of glycopeptide-resistant enterococci in Norwegian poultry and poultry farmers 3 to 8 years after the ban on avoparcin
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the prevalence of fecal glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GRE) in poultry and poultry farmers 3 to 8 years after the Norwegian avoparcin ban in 1995 was examined. It was observed that there was decline in the prevalence of fecal GRE during the study, but there was no decline in the prevalence samples from the farmers.

VanA-type enterococci from humans, animals, and food: Species distribution, population structure, Tn1546 typing and location, and virulence determinants
Article Abstract:
VanA-type human, animal and food glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GRE) from different geographic areas are investigated to study their possible reservoirs and transmission routes. It is found that Tn1546 reservoir is a common and readily accessible by horizontal gene transfer.
