Phylogenetic analyses of some extremely halophilic archaea isolated from dead sea water, determined on the basis of their 16S rRNA sequences
Article Abstract:
Extreme halophiles from enrichments isolated from Dead Sea water samples were characterized by analysis of their 16S rRNA gene sequences using molecular methods. Five groups were identified. Sequence analysis revealed a significant similarity in the sequences of the halophiles with those of 29 strains of previously characterized halophilic archaea. Phylogenetic analysis identified three genera which closely represent the sequences of the halophiles: Haloferax, Halobacterium, and Haloarcula.

Molecular phylogeny and in situ detection of the etiologic agent of necrotizing hepatopancreatitis in shrimp
Article Abstract:
The cause of necrotizing hepatopancreatitis in Penaeus vannamei shrimp is a gram-negative, intracellular and pleomorphic rickettsia-like bacterium, which is a member of the alpha subclass of Proteobacteria. It is different from, but related to the members of the typhus and spotted fever groups. It is related to bacterial endosymbionts of protozoa, Caedibacter caryophila and Holospora obtusa. Molecular methods are used for phylogenetic placement this bacterium.

Identification of eukaryotic open reading frames in metagenomic cDNA libraries made from environmental samples
Article Abstract:
The application of metagenomic technologies is described to construct cDNA libraries from RNA isolated from environmental samples. Result shows that it has many uses, including the identification of novel eukaryotic open reading frames encoding proteins and enzymes.
