Phylogenetic characterization of methanogenic assemblages in eutrophic and oligotrophic areas of the Florida Everglades
Article Abstract:
Methanogen assemblages were characterized using culture-independent approaches targeting the 16s rRNA and mcr genes. This information was utilized to infer possible roles of particular constituents of the assemblages in eutrophic and oligotrophic sites of the northern Florida Everglades during spring and summer.

Phylogeny of acetate-utilizing microorganisms in soils along a nutrient gradient in the Florida Everglades
Article Abstract:
The consumption of acetate in soils taken from a nutrient gradient in the northern Florida Everglades was studied by stable istope probing. It indicated that a significant amount of acetate was consumed by syntrophic acetate oxidation in nutrient-enriched soil.

Syntrophic-methanogenic associations along a nutrient gradient in the Florida Everglades
Article Abstract:
A combination of culture and non-culture based approaches are used to examine the differences between syntrophic and methanogenic microbial communities found in the Everglades, Florida. The methods used and the resulting solutions are discussed.
