Phylogeny and identification in situ of Nevskia ramosa
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the phylogeny of Nevskia ramosa through the use of ribosomal RNA approach. The gene of the neuston bacteria that were described as a rod-shaped, slightly bent bacteria forming typical flat rosettes in the surface of their habitat, was cloned. Results revealed that the ribosomal RNA sequence of the bacteria was closely related and similar to that of the Xanthomonas species and its relatives.

Optimization strategies for DNA microarray-based detection of bacteria with 16S rRNA-targeting oligonucleotide probes
Article Abstract:
Research discusses optimization of the DNA microarray method for the specific detection of bacterial 16S rRNA genes in terms of secondary structures of the target molecules, hybridization reaction conditions, and directed application of capture oligonucleotides. Six environmental strains are analyzed with 20 oligonucleotide probes.

In situ accessibility of small-subunit rRNA of members of the domains bacteria, Archaea, and Eucarya to Cy3-labeled oligonucleotide probes
Article Abstract:
This article presents a model to derive information on the accessibility of the small-subunit rRNA to Cy3-labeled oligonucleotide probes in three prokaryotic 16S rRNA molecules. The model shows that open regions are located around helices 13 and 14 and are accessible, while helix 22 and the 3' half of helix 47 are inaccessible.
