Polyglutamine neurodegenerative diseases and regulation of transcription: Assembling the puzzle
Article Abstract:
The role of the disease-causing polyglutamine proteins in gene transcription and the extent to which the mutant proteins induce disruption of transcription is reviewed. The polyglutamine disorders are a class of nine neuro-degenerative disorders that are inherited gain-of-function diseases caused by expansion of a translated CAG repeat.

Interaction between Sox 9 and beta-catenin control chondrocyte differentiation
Article Abstract:
The existence of physical and functional interactions between beta-catenin and Sox 9, a transcription factor that is required in successive steps of chondrogenesis is discussed. The results strongly suggest that chondrogenesis is controlled by interactions between Sox 9 and the Wnt / beta-catenin signaling pathway.

RNA polymerase I transcriptional and pre-rRNA processing are linked by specific SSU processome components
Article Abstract:
Sequential events in macromolecular biosynthesis are often elegantly coordinated. The small ribosomal sub unit (SSU) processome if a large ribonucleoprotein (RNP) required for processing of precursors to the small sub unit RNA, the 1,8,S of the ribosome.
