Population structure and diversity of avian isolates of Pasteurella multocida from Australia
Article Abstract:
The population structure and diversity of 110 isolates of Pasteurella multocida from Australian poultry and reference strains for the 16 somatic serovars and the three subspecies of gallida, multocida and septica were studied. Findings revealed that a range of P. multocida clones are linked to fowl cholera in Australia and that many of the Australian isolates are similar to non-Australian reference strains. A previously unknown subset of P. multocida strains was discovered.

Surface location of HPr, a phosphocarrier of the phosphoenolpyruvate: sugar phosphotransferase system in Streptococcus suis
Article Abstract:
A major protein was extracted from Streptococcus suis which was found to be HPr, a low-molecular-mass phosphocarrier protein of the bacterial phosphoenolpyruvate:sugar phosphotransferase system. Findings indicated that a part of the cellular HPr is associated with the external cell surface in S. suis. The cellular HPr of S. suis are of two forms which could be distinguised by the presence or the absence of the N-terminal methionine.
