Presence of human immunodeficiency virus nucleic acids in wastewater and their detection by polymerase chain reaction
Article Abstract:
A techniquefor extracting total nucleic acids from raw environmental samples and from the viral concentrates of the same samples is discussed. Samples collected from rawwastewater, sludge, final effluent, soil and pond water were investigated regarding the presence of human immunodeficiency virus type 1. The polymerase chain reaction method was used to analyze the presence of the virus. Both proviral and viral nucleic acids of the virus were found in the wastewater samples collected.

Polymorphisms in Phytophthora infestans: four mitochondrial haplotypes are detected after PCR amplification of DNA from pure cultures or from host lesions
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a polymerase chain reaction-based technique for the rapid detection of mtDNA polymorphisms in Phytophthora infestans. Fungi from agar cultures or infected host tissues were utilized to carry out the analysis. Leaf and stem lesions of late blight were obtained from naturally infected crops while DNA was determined by cutting slabs of agar-containing mycelium. In addition, polymerase chain reaction was carried out with the PC2 PCR thermal cycler.
