Prevalence and characteristics of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli from healthy cattle in Japan
Article Abstract:
Research is presented on the prevalence of Escherichia coli strains producing Shiga toxin in Japan's cattle farms. Stool samples from 183 cows, 88 heifers, and 87 calves on 78 farms were analyzed via polymerase chain reaction (PCR); stx-PCR screening determined prevalence as 69% in cows, 66% in heifers, and 46% in calves, while nested stx-PCR determined prevalence in 100% for all categories.

The gene yggE functions in restoring physiological defects of Escherichia coli cultivated under oxidative stress conditions
Article Abstract:
DNA microarray analysis is performed to find out up-regulated genes in the superoxide dismutase (SOD)-deficient mutant of Escherichia coli exposed to the oxidative stress produced by photoecitedTiO2. The SOD-deficient and wild-type strains of Escherichia coli were transformed with plasmids carrying the selected genes showing unregulated expression under the oxidative condition.
