Probiotic bacteria may become dormant during storage
Article Abstract:
The bacterial viability in probiotic products that is of economic, technological and clinical significance is determined and four methods are compared to enumerate three Bifidobacterium strains in fermented oat products during storage. The results demonstrate that a subpopulation of nonculturable cells retain a functional cell membrane typical of viable cells, which indicates that probiotic bacteria becomes dormant during storage.

New real-time quantitative PCR procedure for quantification of bifidobacteria in human fecal samples
Article Abstract:
The utility of a real-time quantitative PCR method depending on the need to explore at the end of the 5' nuclease assay with the help of a constant fluorescent lanthanide chelate, for the quantification of bifidobacteria in the human fecal models was analyzed. Finally it is concluded that the method used in the real-time PCR is distinct, exact, speedy and simple to quantify the bifidobacteria in feces.

Multiplex PCR with 16S rRNA gene-targeted primers of bifidobacterium spp. to identify sources of fecal pollution
Article Abstract:
Bifidobacterium are one of the most common bacterial types found in the intestines of human and other animals and may be used as indicators of human fecal pollution. The presence of nine human-related bifidobacterium species was analyzed in human and animal wastewater samples of different origins by using species-specific primers based on 16S rRNA sequences.
