Production of two extracellular alkaline phosphatases by a psychrophilic Arthrobacter strain
Article Abstract:
Enzyme assays of phosphatases produced by a psychrophilic bacteria strain at different temperatures identified an isolate, D10, which showed optimal enzyme activity at 45 degrees Centigrade. It also exhibited a morphological cycle and cell amino acids characteristic of the Arthrobacter genus. Ammonium sulfate fractionation and phosphatase zymograms identified two classes of phosphatases, designated D10A and D10B. These enzymes were distinguished from each other by their substrate specificity and the pH required for optimal activity.

Purification and characterization of two extracellular alkaline phosphatases from a psychrophilic Arthrobacter isolate
Article Abstract:
The purification and characterization of two extracellular alkaline phosphatases from psychrophilicArthrobacter isolate were examined. The study used stabilities of the purified enzymes in incubations at various temperatures. Results show that the enzymes were active during different hydrogen ion concentration ranges. Furthermore, it utilized distinct substrates and had different kinetic properties.

Detection and isolation of ultrasmall microorganisms from a 120,000-year-old Greenland glacier ice core
Article Abstract:
The abundance and diversity of ultrasmall cells in the 120,000-year-old Greenland glacier ice core are investigated. The filtration-cultivation procedure, combined with long incubations, enriched for novel ultrasmall-cell isolates, is useful for the analysis of their metabolic properties and mechanisms for long-term survival extreme conditions.
