Proline biosynthesis in Streptococcus thermophilus: characterization of the proBA operon and its products
Article Abstract:
The proBA operon of Streptococcus thermopilus was isolated and analyzed to determine the genetic and biochemical mechanisms of microbial proline biosynthetic pathway. Cloning, sequencing and characterization of the proB and proA genes in the 2.408 kb region of Streptococcus thermophilus chromosome indicated the similarity of proline biosynthesis between the microbe and Escherichia coli. Furthermore, the proB and proA genes are organized by a single operon with a proBA transcription factor that is not affected by exogenous proline.

Membrane topology analysis of the Bacillus subtilis BofA protein involved in pro-sigma k processing
Article Abstract:
A series of gene fusions of bofA with IacZ or phoA reporter genes in Escherichia coli were analyzed to determine the membrane topology of the Bacillus subtilis BofA protein. PCR site-directed mutagenesis created modifications of the last five amino acid residues of the protein. Analysis of the different modifications suggested the possible role of the C-terminal domain in the regulation of pro-sigma k processing.

Transcriptional analysis of the Bacillus subtilis teichuronic acid operon
Article Abstract:
Transcriptional analysis of teichuronic acid operon tua in Bacillus subtilis shows that synthesis of the acid is controlled by Pho regulon which in turn is regulated by the membrane- associated protein PhoR.
